MOTHS & TOADS SCULPTURE FINDER
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
LARKIN WITH TOADS / A MOTH FOR AMY
Although Hull’s two colourful animal sculpture projects were planned to last only a few months, these remarkable Toads and Moths are set to stay for a while longer yet! After each project, many of the sculptures were auctioned and moved to new locations. Whilst some are now in private homes and gardens, many more can be seen from roads and footpaths around the area. You can use this simple Sculpture Finder to locate all the public Moths and Toads.
Larkin with Toads was the first of the large scale, mass participation public art events that populated Hull and the East Riding with 40 enormous decorated toads, initially for 10 weeks during summer 2010. The project was part of Larkin25, a six month festival commemorating the life and work of the poet, novelist, librarian and jazz critic, Philip Larkin, marking the 25th anniversary of his death.

A Moth for Amy helped to mark the 75th Anniversary of the tragic and untimely death of Hull heroine, Amy Johnson, and bring her remarkable life to the attention of people across the city, the region, the country and the world! The 2016 Amy Johnson Festival of the Arts and Engineering celebrated this wonderful woman and her amazing achievements.
Fifty-nine decorated moths appeared across Hull, East Yorkshire, and some key locations across England. One more, Stop me and buy one, was added in 2020 to bring the total to 60 – referencing Amy’s de Havilland DH60 Gipsy Moth, Jason, the plane she flew to Australia on her record breaking solo flight.
