Design Description

My design was inspired by Amy Johnson’s gold medals, and the gold cup for courage she presented, as well as there being several ‘real’ moths that are golden coloured. The details of the henna style design on the top as well as the deep red used there are influenced by her stop in India. Amy Johnson’s journey is inspiring, and I wanted to create something beautiful to commemorate her.

Artist Statement

I’m a filmmaker, and have been making films professionally as one half of Huckleberry Films since 2009. I’ve painted murals in my own home before, so have had experience of painting on challenging surfaces – but never on anything as unusual as a giant moth!
