Aviatrix

Aviatrix

Artist – Mik Richardson

Design Description

Aviatrix is the name used to describe a female aviator. The design depicts the three main prestigious awards earned by Amy Johnson. The Harmony Trophy 1930, Seagrove Trophy 1932 and the CBE for her heroic achievements. I decided to invert the moth sculpture to emphasise the Harmony Trophy and add a Macintosh style 1930s art Deco background to look like a moth’s markings. Along the base of the moth are the honours and dates.
