Amy’s Journey

Amy’s Journey

Artist – Susan Cairns

Design Description

I have taken inspiration from Amy’s journey and included references from places along the route. I have mapped the journey with buildings and folk art inspired images to represent the varied cultures of the places and people Amy flew over. I am very inspired by places and their heritage which is why I have created this design.

I have covered the head and the underneath of the moth with a night sky inspired image with gold foil stars to contrast with the pale blue sky on the wings which accompanies the main illustrations.

Artist Statement

I work with traditional illustration techniques such as pen and ink and methods of printmaking. I combine my original images with digital techniques to add a contemporary feel and enhance my work. I take a lot of inspiration from children’s book illustration, Asian folk art and culture and from my travels. I have previously completed editorial illustrations as well as working as an Artist in Residence in several primary schools and with community groups. I am currently working on my first illustrated children’s book whilst working part time for Arts Council England.
