Design Description

My design celebrates the relationship between French designer Elsa Schiaparelli and Amy whom she chose as her muse and styled in a practical and stylish wardrobe for her solo flight to Cape Town. I wanted to convey Amy’s status as a strong female role model in a male dominated arena by showing, as well as her engineering prowess, that she was also feminine. The jewels on the moth represent Amy’s plane and her everlasting legacy.

Artist Statement

After a long break from the art scene, a close family bereavement returned me to creating pieces and reaffirmed my passion and love of painting, which has given me a positive outlet for my grief and fresh way to express my emotions. My work gives me a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction and has allowed me to give pleasure to others, which is very rewarding.
