45 – Agitprop Moth
Artist: Stephen McKay
Sponsor: Siemens
Location: Lightstream Stadium, Poorhouse Lane, Hull HU9 5HE
Hosted by: Hull City Council and Hull KR
About the Design:
Shout ‘Hull Yes!’ for this ‘revolutionary’ design in the style of a 1930s AgitProp poster. This form of propaganda art was developed in revolutionary Russia to deliver political messages but was quickly adapted by graphic artists in the West. Its influences can still be seen today in advertising and contemporary art.
About the Artist:
Yorkshire artist Stephen McKay likes to work in public and uses large studio spaces where passers-by can watch him create his very public artworks. After a long career as a development chemist, Stephen enjoys experimenting with new materials and decorating techniques to create his public artworks. Sales of Stephen’s artworks have recently raised over £50,000 for children’s charities.
About the Sponsor:
Siemens is creating world-class and world-scale offshore wind manufacturing, assembly, load-out and servicing facilities in Hull’s biggest-ever inward investment. The development will create 1000 jobs directly, with more in the construction phase and supply chain, and open up a wealth of opportunities for local people and businesses.
