About the Design:
The 1930s Art Deco colours of this moth have an iridescent, jewel-like quality, displaying pinks and metallics using enamel paints. The pattern on the wing represents a journey through time using a silhouette of the Moth plane – the compact and overlapped layering of moths reflecting the increased aviation in our skies today, compared to the 1930s, when looking up would only offer occasional sightings.
About the Artist:
Dalo is a local artist who primarily works in oil painting but enjoys experimenting with different styles and media. The design was inspired by a friend of the artist, whose childhood hero was Amy. She has memories of living down Hessle Road as a child in the 1930s and watching Amy’s plane fly over the city. “Everybody wanted to be Amy”.
